Improving our Publicity and Public Relations

Thu, Apr 16th 2015 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

Pat Gaudin, the District PR Officer will be ging us some insights as to how to maximize our media presence and portray a positive and attractive image.

On Thursday we were thankfully back to the college where we welcomed as Guests Pat Gaudin from Mildmay, plus Roger Watkins and Andy Jones from Brentwood Breakfast.

Marilyn said grace and later extracted a good set of fines. We discussed the 'trial' of Fox & Goose last week. The view seemed to be that although the food was very good, there were hidden costs and the room was not exactly private. It was agreed that it was not a suitable venue for formal meetings although it might be worth considering if we are having an evening of straightforward fellowship.

I reminded all about Stan's Big Quiz and the Chelmsford President dinner on 30 May.
Roger Watkins, from Brentwood Breakfast briefly told us about his club's upcoming charter summer ball: Friday 5 June at Stockbrook Manor, Dinner and dancing to a Big Band (that's a band with quite a few people in it!!) whose youtubes look pretty good sounds like a pleasant evening.

After the usual comfort break, Pat Gaudin gave a very interesting talk on publicity and PR. Pat has worked in this field for many years and is chair of the District PR & Comms committee so spoke with great knowledge. She raised a number of really interesting issues and opportunities, which led to a lively discussion. A key message, for some of us, being that media which worked years ago has been replaced and we need to adopt that. I thanked Pat on behalf of the club.

Claire won the raffle so hopefully we gave her another reason to keep coming along.

After the meeting I had a note from Roger Watkins commenting on what a friendly bunch we seemed to be.
