Speaker on the Essex Regiment - at the College

Thu, Apr 23rd 2015 at 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

At the beginning of the week we held a meeting of club council. Sect John will idc circulate minutes so I won't go over it all here.

One thing to mention though is a proposal from CC that in the week beginning 24 May, we do not arrange a club meeting but designate that as a 'scatter week'. College will be closed that week so we would need another venue. The idea is that small groups of 2/3/4 members attend other local club meetings with the intention of taking a few minutes to publicise 'Magic on the Ongar Express' (much as Brentwood Breakfast pushed their summer Ball at our meeting recently). Bill is going to put a list of dates/times round next week and hopefully we can get a good number of people 'signed up' to do this.

At Thursday's meeting we were pleased to welcome as Guests Ian Hooke, who was our speaker and Claire who is still coming along. Richard's suggestion that people wear red and white for St Georges Day was followed by many, including me - although I seemed to get unfair stick for my red & white.

Linda W opened the meeting with Grace and the usual standard of meal was enjoyed.

In parish announcements I reminded people of Mildmay Baddow Races, where marshals are still required, and the Chelmsford President Dinner on 30 May. Richard is trying to get a group together to support that.
Our speaker, Ian, is a curator at Chelmsford Museum and gave an excellent illustrated talk on the Essex Regiment. What was potentially a dry and dull subject was brought to life by a clear expert who added human interest. Unfortunately we had little time for questions and Richard W gave the vote of thanks.

Linda extracted some good fines - it felt mainly from me! and Leila won the raffle.
