Speaker - The Chelmer Canal Trust - at the Rose and Crown

Thu, Aug 27th 2015 at 12:00 am -

Thursday saw us back at Rose & Crown where we had decent attendance. Jan c said Grace and later on extracted fines. I was pleased to welcome our guest speaker, William Marriage from the Chelmsford canal trust; we also welcomed Mel Wilson.

I informed members that, sadly, Richard has decided that he needs to step down from the role of President for this year. We hope that he is soon back to his old self and able to come back to club on a regular basis. This of course means that the temporary arrangements we've had in place for past few weeks are no longer appropriate. Sect John is seeking advice from District, there is club council meeting on 8 September and it is hoped to bring a proposed way forward to the business meeting on 10 September.

We have had a little confusion this year about apologies & meal choices; Bill has kindly agreed to fill both these roles, and Kathryn will deputise when he is away

After the usual comfort break, we enjoyed an interesting and illustrated talk about the history and current use of the Chelmer & Blackwater canal. Some of the historic and aerial photos were especially interesting in seeing different perspectives of the canal. Leila proposed the vote of thanks.

Chris won the raffle.

Next week we have a tour of the Essex Police Museum preceded by a meal at Zizzi in town. Please let Kathryn know if you wish to join the meal
