Thursday saw us at the college with a visit from DG Alan Clarke and AG Ann Holmes. Mike and Janet Littlewood were guests for one of the last times as their membership is going through.
The service was somewhat slow but the food as ever was excellent and afterwards DG Alan entertained us with tales of San Diego and enlightened us with his vision for the year. The idea of a Satellite club was again mentioned and Alan set a challenge to make such a family club - even offering a prize if Chelmsford can beat Colchester to it!
David was passing round the Mulled wine rota and Bill distributed the Christmas quiz sheets - for anyone who wasn't there a bundle has been set aside for you - this is a great fundraiser which we should all get behind, its a lot less work than an event, even less work than the fireworks! Just sell to your family, friends, neighbours and anyone you meet, Richard Wilson is a great example of sales when it comes to these - one of his suggestions was get your hairdresser to sell some!
In other notices - the Quadrant Evening is next Wednesday and there is also a Rotaract Pointless coming up. Rob and Richard have said they will attend, anyone else who can go out on a "school night" is encouraged to join them!
Grace was said by Jan and due to a communication error I started a new tradition of fines being given by two people at opposite ends of the table - independently both Jan Penn and Pearl extracted a multitude of fines, primarily from John Johnston. I'm sure winning the raffle made up for the lightening of wallet though.
On Saturday a group of us headed to London for the BBC tour, which was excellent and has revealed some potential talent who we may need to call on for the radio programme. James bravely read the news (I'm sure its not just the proud mother speaking when I say he was amazing to stammer through it!). Then Claire Peacock amused us with her "Carol Kirkwood" impression, I think its safe to say it may actually be easier to ballroom dance than to live commentate through a weather report whilst waving your arms around in front of a green screen. Then came a stab at Radio Drama where Michelle was in charge of sound effects whilst Richard, David, and Mark were the "talent" Richard proving exceptionally skilled at playing 2 parts.
Next week sees us at the college again with a talk from Remap. Apologies to Jane Johnston by Monday night please.
