Born in Swansea, David came to Cardiff to study at Cardiff University, receiving an Honours degree in French.

David is married to Jan, a retired schoolteacher, and they have a daughter, Sally and two sons, Michael and Gregory. Their grandchildren Seys and Carys live in Pennsylvania.

Moving permanently to work in Cardiff David worked for British Gas where he became a Regional Manager. He later set up his own enterprise specialising in organisation development and culture change and advising companies in the private and public sector.

David was elected in 1999 to represent his community of Lisvane. He has been a Scrutiny Chair and Leader of his political group. He has been a governor of Llysfaen Primary School since first elected. David was also a member of the South Wales Probation Board for six years championing the Board’s performance agenda.

David helped found and chairs the Lisvane Environmental Group which helps maintain the many footpaths and rights of way in and around Lisvane. It also gives support to the local Friends Groups including that for Parc Cefn Onn.

The charity which the Lord Mayor has nominated to support during 2015/16 is Velindre Cancer Centre. It is the largest non - surgical cancer Hospital in Wales and has been providing support and care to cancer patients for nearly 60 years. Every pound that is raised during the Mayoral Year will be used to fund ground breaking research, to buy specialist equipment and support patients, their families and carers.
