Business Meeting at the College

Thu, Jan 14th 2016 at 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

On Monday, Roger and I did our monthly stint at the Mildmay Africa computer scheme. - we are still short of equipment so if anyone knows where we can round up a supply of working but unwanted PCs or laptops, let us know.

On Wednesday, very early, I attended the Rivermead joint club breakfast meeting at ARU; despite the early start, it was an interesting talk and tour of fabulous facilities.

Throughout the rest of the week (it seemed) I was at Moulsham Mill trying to put together the first Chelmsford Rotary radio show. I guess if I'd known how difficult it was going to be, I'd never have started but you get immersed in something and keep going.

Thursday had us at college for a business meeting and we had an excellent attendance.

Jan C said Grace and later extracted fines.

Kathryn told us about her visit to a Rotary club in Thailand, and Sheila reported on the recent District Council Meeting. I was also able to hand Richard his JVP gong.

After the break, the main item in the business meeting was a discussion about all aspects of fundraising within the club. We had an interesting, wide ranging and open discussion, so thanks to all who contributed.

I think from the discussion we concluded that the club should continue with our current programme of events as was set out in my paper, but that we do need to deliver more support from within and outside the club for those. There are things we can improve on in terms of publicity etc. and we will try to do that - but it's everyone's responsibility, not just a few. We decided that the idea of a large event, such as the proposed Family Funday, does not carry enough commitment from the club and we will not therefore attempt this. There is a suggestion that we may be able to somewhat develop W4W (which is a success story for us) and we will explore that further.

Sect John will idc send minutes of the meeting so I won't cover anything else here.

The raffle was initially won by Janette, but as she is not a drinker, she kindly put it back for a re-draw and I'm afraid I can't remember who actually walked away with the wine.

Next week we are back at college for a talk on ADHD.

On saturday night a large squad of members together with a few friends enjoyed a meal in Southend followed by 'Let it be' at the Cliffs. A really good evening and thanks to Richard for organising it.

I have just finished listening to the radio programme - and needless to say have spotted a number of 'glitches' and things we can improve on. In our defence, I need to say that Dave Almond and I found ourselves in the deep end at CCR with little or no technical help; it was a case of finding out how to do things mainly by trail and error. Providing we don't get sacked after this first show, we are determined to stick with it and try to improve. So, if anyone has constructive comments or wants to help us in any way, please let me know.
