Business Meeting at the Rose and Crown

Thu, Mar 31st 2016 at 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Hi all, a fairly brief report this week on what was a fairly brief meeting.
There was a pretty good attendance at the Rose and Crown where the food and service was back to usual. Janet said Grace and extracted fines.

In parish announcements, I drew attention to a classic car rally being held by Kelvedon club on 17 July. Janet reported that the monthly feature in the Essex Chronicle appears to be back on track and first edition is due for 22 April.

Linda W reported on a visit to Hebden Bridge to witness a major fundraising event (duck race with 8000 ducks) run by the local Rotary club - a short discussion acknowledged that the river in Chelmsford runs too slowly to make this a real option locally.

After the comfort break we held the Business meeting. David read the objects of rotary. Sect John will do minutes so won't cover all here. I will, though, mention 3 things.

Firstly I was able to display a cheque for £500 from Michelle's employers for Barrow Farm; Michelle had successfully applied for a donation from her employer's charitable donation fund; well done. I have now sent the cheque on to Barrow Farm with covering letter.

Secondly I proposed that the club make a donation of £100 to Hadleigh Castle club to assist their support for sending Disabled athletes from District 1240 to the annual Rotary Disabled sports tournament. There are competitors from Chelmsford and we hope to get one as a speaker as a future meeting. The club agreed my proposal.

Finally, John B and Jan P agreed to be captains for 2 teams to enter the Hugh Markham trophy for this year; thanks to them.

The raffle was won by Leila - although she had left by them!

Next week we have a guided walk through Chelmsford followed by a Meal at Zizzi; meet at Stone Bridge (near Monsoon) 6.30. Claire needs numbers for this so if you have not already indicated whether or not you are attending please email Claire this weekend to let her know.
