President's Message

Welcome to the website of the Rotary Club of Chislehurst, a very lively, active club of which I have the honour of being President during the year 2023-2024.

Ken Smith

Welcome to the Chislehurst Rotary website and I hope you will enjoy reading about who we are and what we do.

Most people will have an idea of the charitable work we do and our fund raising activities locally, but we are so much more than that, and we have a full schedule of social activities too. Our mantra is service above self, but all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, so we make sure that we enjoy ourselves along the way!

There are over 35,000 Rotary Clubs world-wide and more than 1.2 million members. In the UK, close to 1,700 clubs and 50,000 members. “Rotary” is a very open and diverse organisation of men and women from all walks of society, who together enjoy putting something back into the Community. Important though that is, we also gain from improving our own skills and working alongside similar-minded people in our activities.

We have a great track record in raising funds locally where our projects include the Chislehurst Fireworks Display, Summer Fair and of course, the Santa collections at Christmas. All the money raised is used to support local and international causes and charities.

Locally, it is used via projects and donations to promote the endeavours of enterprising young people, help those of all ages who are disadvantaged, and encourage deserving activities.

Internationally, we also support - via our Rotarian connections - many projects, regularly responding to disasters caused by events such as war or severe climatic episodes and financing health and education programmes in less fortunate communities than our own.

Fighting disease worldwide is one of Rotary’s main goals, and our members already support efforts to promote ways to stay healthy, supply training, and provide vital medical equipment. More recently, we sent vital aid to Ukraine and Turkey.

We meet twice a month at the Chislehurst Golf Club, where we have a programme of interesting and varied speakers, and visitors and potential members are always welcome. I encourage you to explore our website where you will see the details and to learn more about our Club. You can also follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, where you will be able to see our members and volunteers hard at work!

Hopefully we’ll see you again soon and if you would like to come along to one of our meetings or events, or to speak to one of us to find out more, please get in touch via the contact details below.
