Young Chef 2016


The Rotary Clubs of Amersham, Chesham and Great Missenden held their District (preliminary round) YOUNG CHEF competition on January 30th.

This was hosted by kind permission of the Head Mistress at PIPERS CORNER SCHOOL Great Kingshill where there were excellent kitchens and equipment.
The Chef Judge , Adam Witlock, a chef and director of Gilbeys Resturant of Old Amersham adjudicated giving his praise for the exceptional high standard of the 4 Young Chefs in the COOK OFF.
The chefs were Matt Smith ,13 and Vandan Somani, 12 both from Dr Challoners Grammar School and Imogen Scott 16 and Chloe Ball  from Pipers Corner School.
For his menu Matt Smith chose to cook for his main course Paella with chicken,chorizo, mussels ,prawns and squid and for his desert a chocolate orange pudding.
Vandan Somani cooked a minted pea and goats cheese soup  and a Shrimp stirfry, with an apple crumble for desert.
Imogen Scott cooked Beetroot pancakes with goats cheese sauce, pan fried duck with celeriac and caramelised pear for desert.
Chloe Ball cooked fresh Thai fish cakes with chili sauce ThaiRed Curry with Duck and Jasmine Rice.
They all had to cost their meal for two up to £15 and time their activities on a work sheet.
A table presentation with cutlery ,china  and decoration etc was also marked.
The two winners from the local competition will go forward to the Reginal round held in Hitchin and then hopefully to the final
