Dinner = Cllr Kay Morrison Speaker

On Thursday 10th November 2016, SVP Lindsay Roy in the absence of President Brian Johnson took the chair as he welcomed 21 Rotarians and guest speaker Cllr. Kay Morrison to this lunch time meeting held at the Gilvenbank Hotel.

On reception, this week was Archie Lawrie who said grace and Peter May.

Jim Boyd brought back greetings from The Rotary Club of Kirkcaldy.

Iain Haywood sought confirmation from the club for the beneficiary of next year’s Sportsman’s Dinner which he said would be The Gilvenbank Community Sports Hub.

A vocational visit would take place at Haldane’s factory in Eastfield on Friday 18th Nov commencing at 1.30pm

170 Shoeboxes will be taken up to Perth today 10th Nov for onward transmission to Easter Europe for Christmas.

The Peace walk will take place tonight 10th Nov with Rotarians meeting at Glenwood and meeting up with the other schools and churches and local dignitaries at the war memorial,

The meeting on the 24th November listed as an evening meeting has been changed to lunch time,

Our speaker this week was Cllr. Kay Morrison (Depute Provost) who is a member of the Labour Party with her ward being  for Glenrothes North, Leslie and Markinch. Kay spoke about her Journey from the time she was born in Northern Ireland (Bushmills near the Giants Causeway on the Antrim coast) attending Bushmills Grammar school that area being famous for the Bushmills Irish Whiskey. She attended Trinity University for 4 years followed by a year at Stranmillis University College which is a university college of Queen's University Belfast and gained a post graduate degree in teaching, her first posting was in Campeltown Grammar school and she then did some travelling to Italy which was her favourite, Kay settled down and married Scott and they have one daughter living in Fife for 20 years. She spoke about her roles in Fife Council and her role as Depute Provost highlighting the many activities and ceremonies she attends. Her weekly schedule is certainly full.  Her Interests are People and politics. Film and theatre and she says talking's a passion rather than an interest.

There will be no speaker this week Thursday 17th November as the meeting will be for council chairs to update members on their ongoing projects and activities with this being a lunch time meeting at the Gilvenbank Hotel please  meet at 12.45pm for 12.55pm.

On reception, this week Thursday 10th November will be Gerald Cameron and Peter May.

Friends of Rotary is being promoted for those who would like to be involved in assisting in the community and internationally but have limited time and possibly can only commit on a part time basis.
