On Thursday 11th April 2017 President Brian Johnson welcomed 17 Club Rotarians and visiting Rotarian from the Rotary Club of Kirkcaldy Jack Dempsey to this lunch time meeting which was held at the Gilvenbank Hotel, Glenrothes.
On reception, this week were Murray Grubb who said grace and Peter May.
Six apologies for absence were received.
President Brian advised that the recently run Swimarathon for Rotary Foundation our club raised £291.
Community Chair Anne Sampson advised that our Young Photographer of the Year Cassy Watt went on to win the District competition as well, so well done to her.
Wilna Roger advised that all was now in place for the Awards evening on 25th May 2017.
Our speaker who stood in at the last moment this week was our own Archie
Lawrie who spoke about a case he was asked to attend about Poltergeists at
Blackford (between Perth and Stirling) with his friend a medium, Francesca Ryan.
He had been informed of a building which had Sick Building Syndrome which is
believed by some to be an illness caused by unknown agents in buildings it is a
controversial subject because many experts do not think it is a true syndrome
it has no known cause and many others have been associated with individual
buildings and for those who believe the syndrome is real with many risk factors
being cited and fit no pattern. Archie said he had attended 696 investigations
in buildings but this is only the second he had attended with the shaking of a
property. The first incident he remembers was the day of the twin towers attack
in Sept 2005 when a building with walls 2 feet thick started to vibrate. This
incident at Blackford found medicines beside a fireplace downstairs previously
on a shelf in a bedroom upstairs and the dogs of the house locked in a bathroom
from the inside. This could not be explained. Francesca mentioned that there
was a forceful spirit around the building, Archie stood against the wall of the
building and the other two heard a Banging noise which Archie did not hear.
Archie felt the wall vibrating as a mirror started moving on the wall which the
other two did not see, Was Archie imagining this? Francesca eventually pushed
the spirit right back and it has not been felt since.
The Rotary vote of thanks was given by Geoff Sampson.
