This competition is open to young people aged 17 or under on the 31st August each year, and is split into three age categories:

  • Junior, for those aged 7 to 10 (School years 3,4,5,6)
  • Intermediate, for those aged 11 to 13 (Years 7,8,9)
  • Senior, for those aged 14 to 17 (Years 10,11,12,13)

The Competition

Photography has the power to capture special places, moments and memories.

The Rotary Young Photographer competition gives participants the chance to express themselves through photography, interpreting the competition’s annual brief in an imaginative way.

The task at District level is to produce a portfolio of three photographs based upon the theme, ‘Colours of Nature’ in colour or black and white. The District winner will nominate one photo to go forward to the national single-image competition.

Photos must be submitted in a digital format (JPG) at least 1500 pixels in size on the longest side, although larger is recommended (up to 3500 pixels on the longest side). Mobile phones may be used in addition to cameras.

The competition is held to enable young people to:

  • Experiment with photography
  • Show interpretation of a given topic
  • Express their ideas through the medium of photography
  • Showcase their photographic talent
