The meeting opened with a minute’s silence in memory of Daphne.
Robert Sissons:
Robert S. is taking part in a cycle ride to Paris to raise funds for Demelza and is somewhere between Calais and Paris. Pat took the meeting.
David Bowley;
Jackie has been in touch with David who is recovering from the operation on his back on April 21st. David is still tired and in some pain but says he is making a good recovery and sends his thanks to everyone for their cards and calls.
Stroke Awareness:
It was agreed to donate £50.00 to the Stroke Association.
General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR):
These new data protection regulations come into force on May 25th and the revised Club policy has been circulated and should be read. While it is unlikely, it is possible for the Club to be prosecuted for any breach of the regulations. Most of what the Club does is unaffected, however, it is vital to ensure that the Club Directory with members’ personal details and email addresses does not end up in the wrong hands. Please keep the Club Directory safe and secure and make sure to destroy or delete and replace the old one when it is updated. If you keep the directory on your computer simply save the new one with the old name and the previous one will be deleted and replaced. If you are sending an email to more than one member please enter the addresses under BCC.
Opening Your Heart to Bhutan:
Andrew B. has submitted the evidence for the Bhutan to District for the grant for Opening Your Heart to Bhutan. Emma’s book is the Kindle Book of the Month and is available to download at 0.99 p.
Sunday, May 6th – Ron and Irene’s Olde English Cream and Strawberry Tea:
Ron and Irene are looking forward to seeing everyone at their garden party on May 6th. The address is Alva, 4 Richmond Road, Whitstable, CT5 3HS. Richmond Road is the third turning on the left off Clover Road.
Thursday, May 10th – Board Meeting:
The next Board Meeting will be on Thursday, May 10th at Robert’s house as usual.
Saturday, May 12th – Gardening at the Whitstable and Tankerton Hospital:
Brenda sends her thanks to all those who helped out on April 28th; the garden is looking excellent. However, the middle section still needs weeding and planting and anyone who can help will be very welcome at the hospital at 9.30 am on May 12th.
Saturday, May 12th – RC Forest of Blean Charity Night at the Races:
On Saturday, May 12th RC Forest of Blean are holding a Race Night in aid of Shelterboxes starting at 7.00 pm. The cost will be £10.00 person including a light 2-course meal. If you would like to go please contact either Georgina or David on 07850 466207.
Thursday, May 17th – Annual General Meeting:
The AGM has been rescheduled from May 24th to May 17th the notice has been circulated. Our guest that day will be Linda from Apeldoorn.
Sunday, May 20th – Car Parking at Whitstable:
The next session will be on Sunday, May 20th as several regular helpers will be away on the day, volunteers are badly needed especially in the afternoon. If you can help, even if only for a while , please sign up.
Thursday, May 24th – Club Meeting:
It is not possible for the Club to use the Golf Club for the meeting on May 24th and Godfrey has arranged an alternative venue at Herne Bay Table Table, Blacksole Farm, Margate Road, Herne Bay, CT6 6LA. This will be a normal meeting of the Club at 7.00 am for 7.30 am and apologies should be sent to Godfrey as usual. The cooked breakfast will cost £9.00 per person and the light breakfast £7.00. All drinks which include fruit juices and smoothies, but no alcohol, are unlimited.
Wednesday, May 30th – RC Herne Bay, Evening Meeting:
On Wednesday, May 30th RC Herne Bay are holding an evening meeting at the Marine Hotel, Tankerton at 7.00 for 7.30 pm when the speaker will be Dr. Ellingham who will be talking on Safe Anaesthesia Worldwild. The cost will be £20.00 per person including dinner and everyone is welcome. If you would like to be there please contact Garry Lewis on 07785 597628 or garrjan@aol.com.
Thursday, May 31st:
Thursday, May 31st will be an evening meeting at the Golf Club. Guests are very welcome. There is a form in the folder to sign up but this is a regular Club meeting and everyone is expected to attend unless apologies are sent to Godfrey in the usual way. The menu will be a beef and pork carvery with a vegetarian option followed by lemon meringue pie, tea and coffee. The cost will be £18.00 per person but drinks are not included.
David K. will give a talk on the Battle of Bossenden Wood.
Weekend of June 8th to 10th – Visit to Apeldoorn:
Twelve members have signed up to go on the visit to Apeldoorn. Linda, Andrew’s opposite number at RC Apeldoorn, will be in the UK and plans to join the Club for the meeting on May 17th.
Tuesday, July 3rd – Trip in the Greta:
The trip on the Greta will take place on Tuesday, July 3rd. The Greta will sail at 12 noon for a six-hour trip around Thames estuary and the forts. The cost will be £44.20 per person. The numbers are limited to twelve. Could those who have already signed up please confirm to Ron as soon as possible if they are still interested in making the trip. Food is not provided on board so please remember to bring a packed lunch.
Saturday, July 15th – Summer Beach BBQ:
On Saturday, July 15th the Samba Band will be walking from Hampton to Whitstable with a stop for a Summer Beach BBQ at Long Rock. They leave from Hampton Pier at 1.00 pm and need volunteers to collect money along the way. There is a form in the folder so please sign up to help.
Sunday, July 29th – Herne and Broomfield Fun Day Parking:
Looking after the parking at the Herne and Broomfield Fun Day is our quid pro quo for the loan of the trailer for Christmas Collection and Andrew B. still needs some more volunteers in the afternoon. Please sign up to help if you can.
