Speakers - RNLI

At breakfast this morning we welcomed Laurie Pavelin and Colin Lyons from the RNLI as our speakers.   Laurie is one of the volunteer crew members at the Penarth station and Colin heads up the local fund-raising efforts.  The RNLI is President Michael Sant's charity for the year.

Laurie gave us a fascinating talk about some of the rescues carried out by the Penarth station's in-shore boats, explaining what the difficulties were that had to be overcome, the precautions needed to ensure the safety of the crews, and the training that the volunteers undergo.  Much effort goes into trying to ensure that amateur yachtsmen and fisherman fully understand the potential dangers of being out at sea, and what equipment ought to be on board to cope with emergencies.
