Walk 4 Water to raise funds for clean water and sanitation / healthcare projects in Nigeria

On Friday 140 Year 6 students walked 6km carrying 6litres of water in support of international Walk for Water appeal. The distance and weight of water represent what many deprived children in parts of the world would need  undertake each day before (and often after) school in order to bring water to their familes.

The schools involved were St.Peter's Canterbury, Whitstable Junior School, Swalecliffe Junior School and Blean Junior School. There are four other schools walking in their school grounds too, making a total of over 300 children.

We hope to make a total of around £3500 from sponsorship which will be match funded by a Dutch water company due to Chestfield's connection with Apeldorm et Loo Rotary in Holland.

Around 600 children completed a similar walk in Holland hopefully raising around £7000, which will also be match funded.

The monies are for a project in Nigeria helping to provide water, sanitation and hygiene facilities for around 6216 displayed people fleeing their war torn homes.

Over the last nine years since Chestfield has been organising this event, the two clubs have now raised around £250,000 for projects in Tanzania, Malawi and now Nigeria.
