Minutes of the Meeting

Held on Thursday, October 31st 2019

                                             At The Golf Club, Chestfield

Birthday:

            Birthday wishes to Iain and to Diane Coupland.

John Bishop:

   Everyone gave very best wishes to  John Bishop, a founder member of the    Club, who has resigned and today was his last meeting.      It is hoped that             John will visit the Club from time to time.

Ron and Irene Benning:

            Ron’s wife, Irene, will be going into hospital tomorrow for an operation         and he was asked to pass on to her very best wishes from the Club for a        swift recovery.     Ron himself is almost back to normal after his back           problems.

Rotary Radio:

            A trip to Rotary Radio at Blue Town, Sheerness followed by a visit to RC        Minster which meets on Wednesday evenings was put to the meeting and            a dozen members present said that they would go.  Hilary will try to        organise for the second or fourth Wednesday of the month.

Christmas Dinner:

            A deposit of £10.00 per person should be paid to David M. by the end of        today.

Demelza Pumpkin Hunt, Friday, October 25th:

            Sue, Jean and Iain helped with the Demelza Pumpkin hunt on October 25th       and which was very successful.

Table Tennis Evening:

            Dave put to the meeting a proposal for a table-tennis evening one Friday       in January or February and this was agreed.

Thursday, November 7th, Meeting:

            Next week we will be joined by Maria Blackburn, DG and the speaker will      be Anna Gibson, Headmistress of Whitstable School.

Saturday, November 9th,  Club Quiz Night:

            The Quiz Night is now sold out and organised.      As usual help will be            needed to set up tables beforehand and in clearing up afterwards.  

            Jean M. reminded everyone to bring their own wine, glasses and knives.

Saturday, November 23rd, Young Chef Competition:

            All in hand.    The competition will be held at Whitstable School starting at     9.00 am.   There are 17 contestants at present.       Owain, Kathy and        Robert S. will be there and Chef Chris has very kindly offered to provide    the ingredients. 

Saturday, November 23rd, All Saints, Open Afternoon:

            On Saturday afternoon, November 23rd, from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm, All Saints Church is holding an Open Afternoon in their hall where all groups     which use the hall can promote their activities at no cost.   It was agreed             that the Club would take part and a form will be put in the folder for             volunteers to look after the table.

Saturday, December 7th, Christmas Dinner:

            If you have not signed up, it is not too late.    A deposit of £10.00 per   person should be paid to David M. by the end of this month.

Thursday, January 2nd, Breakfast at the Farmer and Harper Whitstable:

            The Golf Club will be closed on Thursday, January 2nd and Godfrey has          organised breakfast starting at 9.00 am. at the Farmer and Harper in             Whitstable where there is a private room which seats 30.     Godfrey will       need numbers and menu selectiona in advance and there will be a form in    the folder.      

Thursday, March 12th, Evening at the Gulbenkian in aid of Alzheimers            Research:

   Sue and Kathy are planning a joint fundraising evening at the Gulbenkian      with Rebecca Futrill of Alzheimers Research on March 12th next year.      The programme has yet to be finalized.

Visits and Greetings:

            Robert S. brought greetings from Gillian, President, Canterbury Sunrise.

Raffle:

            Godfrey won a bottle of wine.

Master of Alms;

            Today was Magic Day, Toffee Apple Day and Black Cat Awareness Day so      Nick had plenty of scope to fleece almost everyone.
