Lunch time meeting - Visit to Collydean Community Centre

Thu, Feb 6th 2020 at 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

On Thursday 6th February 2020 President Ewen Macdonald welcomed 12 Club Rotarians and guest Nicola Duncan to this our lunch time meeting, which was held at the Collydean Community Centre, Glenrothes.

On reception, this week was Geoff Sampson.

Our guest speaker this week was Rose Duncan full time co-ordinator / Centre manager at the Collydean Community Centre which is run as a not for profit charitable organisation which is managed by a board of Trustees drawn from the local community. Run by one full time co-ordinator and 4 other members of part-time staff, along with a fantastic group of volunteers.

Rose came on board as a volunteer in November 2018 and was eventually offered a full-time position at the centre. The centre was deemed to be non-inclusive and an amount of £248k was required to upgrade the facility and to allow for suitable access for wheel chair users, So far Rose has been very successful in applying for grants but there is still a long way to go to raise the full amount.

Rose has worked flat out to bring in a diverse group of clubs to make use of the centre as their base, from the Out of School Club to the Pitcairn Pensioners and everything in between, including a fantastic range of adult’s health and fitness classes. Their what’s on program is growing all the time so get in touch to find out more about hiring one of their halls, whether for a class or as a one-off hire for a birthday party or occasion.

They also have the fantastic Community Kitchen Cafe on a Thursday and Friday 11am - 2pm, where people from the local community or beyond, can come along and enjoy a friendly lunch, with the choice of fresh homemade soups, sandwiches, rolls, wraps, etc and a selection of sweet snacks, and hot and cold drinks.

There are a couple of car parking spaces to the front of the building, along with street parking and a larger car park to the rear of the building. They also have a disabled ramp to the front of the building for disabled access.

The Rotarians after enjoying soup and sandwiches presented Rose with £150 to cover the cost of the food and the balance for the centre prior to be shown around the centre by Rose.

The Rotary vote of thanks was given by Geoff Sampson.
