Fri, Nov 29th 2019 at 9:00 am- Mon, Dec 30th 2019 - 9:00 am

And the winners are Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School from Faversham

We were pround to play a very small part in this fantastic project by being one of their sponsors. Its great to see that they took on the World and won in what was a very competative competition. We wish the team members, George, Lewis and Freddie, every success in their future careers and the teachers at QEGS a big thank you for making it happen for them and the school.

See below for the details of this great event:

Dear Sponsor

I am writing on behalf of Team Evolve UK to provide you with an update on the team's progress at the World Finals of F1 in Schools in Abu Dhabi.

In case you haven't heard, our fantastic team have battled it out against 54 teams from 24 countries over the past 4 days. On Tuesday, they secured victory in the Knock Out Competition, beating a team from Germany in the final, cheered on very loudly by the rest of the school who watched on a big screen in the main hall, so we knew they would be coming home with a trophy.

On Wednesday evening at turn 1 on the Yas Marina Circuit, the ceremony to announce the winners of the 20 other awards that were up for grabs got under way. Back in Faversham, those of us left in school were all sitting around our computers live streaming the awards.

I am delighted to announce that not only did Team Evolve UK take home the Knock Out Competition Award, they also secured the Enterprise Award and the Pit Display Award. You may be aware that two members of the team, George and Lewis had applied to the Unilever Williams Engineering Academy and had been shortlisted. Last night they found out they had both won places and now have access to the most incredible expertise as they embark on the next stage of their lives.

So, with all the above under their belts, the attention turned to the final honours. In time honoured tradition, results were announced in reverse order and with only the competition winners left to be declared, it was Team Evolve UK who were crowned Champions of the World! The team took their place on the top of the podium draped in the England flag, whilst the national anthem was played. It was an extremely poignant moment for all, both in Abu Dhabi and in Faversham. Mr Harvey, who is accompanying the team in Abu Dhabi, Mr Anderson, the Headteacher and the whole school are immensely proud of our fantastic students, George, Lewis and Freddie. The team would like to extend their grateful thanks to you, their sponsors, for your support in making their dreams a reality. So much hard work and many, many hours went into this competition over a period of years and without your backing they could not have reached such dizzy heights.

Below is a link to some of the photos taken in the past few days.

The team will be in touch personally in due course but in the meantime, I hope you are as proud as we are!

Very best wishes,

Siobhain O'Flaherty
