Dunmow Rotary Club held its annual Essex Metal Detecting Rally in Thaxted on Saturday 31st August, by kind permission of farmer Simon Latham. For six hours one hundred and sixty seven detectorists, one couple travelling from Barnsley, scanned the fields for treasure. A number of coins, an old key and a gold ring were found. As the ring is believed to be more than a thousand years old its details are logged and photographed as with all finds. This information is then sent to the Essex Finds Officer for verification.
This has been an excellent fund raiser for Rotary Charities with almost three thousand pounds raised on the day.
