Jane Cox: A Musical Evening with Evelyn & Bernie Armstrong

Thu, Jan 30th 2020 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Weekly meeting with guest artistes

The Rotary Club of Hawick hosted a very entertaining evening on Thursday 30 January when we were joined for supper at Mansfield House Hotel by Bernie and Evelyn Armstrong.

After supper, the talented father and daughter team put on a very professional, unaccompanied, performance. The pair took turn about with Evelyn opening the after-dinner entertainment by singing ‘Wild Mountain Side’ and Bernie following by singing ‘Oh the winter it is past’.

Next Evelyn sang ‘Charlie is ma darling’ and Bernie replied with ‘Jock O’Hazeldean’. To finish Evelyn sang ‘Caledonia’ and most members of Hawick Rotary Club joined in the chorus. Bernie sang ‘I thought I had no voice’ which is certainly not true as his voice was splendid throughout!

The next day Evelyn was once again travelling to her position within Kelso High School whilst Bernie, on Friday, was travelling to the westernmost point of Scotland - Ardnamurchan - for yet another Burns’ supper recital which we are sure would be as appreciated as their performance was at Mansfield House Hotel.

An error in our report last week referred to Patrick Friell representing Hawick in the Young Musician Area Final by playing the violin. This should have read piano. Ellis Hodgins also represents Hawick at the event, by singing.
