Membership

On Thursday 4th January the Club welcomed its first new member for 2024. Our latest recruit is Chris Boorman, pictured here with Club President Katy Harris at his induction. The members present gave Chris a very warm welcome.

Whilst we are well known locally for high-profile events such as Music in the Park, Donkey Derby and our Christmas collections, we undertake a whole host of other activities for the benefit of the local community to raise money or give other much needed support.  We donate from our own funds to support Shelterbox and other aid charities helping with disaster relief in all parts of the world, and, as a part of the worldwide Rotary International organisation, we have contributed to the ‘End Polio Now’ campaign that has helped to almost eradicate polio, to the Ukraine war effort, and to the Pakistan Flood Disaster Relief Fund.  These are just a few examples.

On top of all this, we have many activities that are never publicised, including some great social occasions. The backgrounds of the men and women in our club are many and varied; we have members from the business world, several ex-military (Army and RAF, but no Marines or Navy yet) a jeweller, an estate agent, sales and marketing people, a pharmacist, a union official, a retired GP and a few local councillors amongst our 50+ members.  In fact, we are a real mix of personalities.

Farnborough Rotary has two main types of members, namely Full Members and  Volunteers.   Full Members meet every Thursday for lunch at the Holiday Inn; they get involved in the planning of all manner of activities mentioned elsewhere on this site.  Volunteers are those who are time-constrained and cannot make the commitment of Full Members but are ready to help when they can, particularly at some of the events mentioned above.

If you feel you would like to get involved either as a Member or Volunteer and so give back something to our local community, then please get in touch.  We are always looking for people with energy, enthusiasm and a little time on their hands and we would be delighted if you would like to have a friendly, informal chat with a few Club Members.  We are very flexible so happy to arrange a get-together whenever it's convenient for you.  This Rotary club needs you!

If you would like more information, please contact our Secretary, Peter Taylor, on 0300 772 7011 (local call rates).  We hope to hear from you!
