Maintain & Recruit New Members
If you live locally, you will be aware that Farnborough Rotary Club organises a number of local highlights. Since 1989 we have been running the Donkey Derby in conjunction with other local Rotary clubs on the late May Bank Holiday and since 2001 we have organised the wonderfully successful Music in the Park which is held every other year in July and has raised a total so far of over £500,000. In December each year we are out with the Christmas float around the streets of Farnborough and in local shopping centres collecting money for mainly local charities every December.
Whilst we are known for these high-profile events, we undertake a whole host of other activities for the benefit of the local community to raise money or give other much needed support. We donate from our own funds to support Shelterbox and other aid charities helping with disaster relief in all parts of the world, and, as a part of the worldwide Rotary International organisation, we have contributed to the ‘End Polio Now’ campaign that has helped to almost eradicate polio.
On top of all this, we have many activities that are never publicised, including some great social occasions. The backgrounds of the men and women in our club are many and varied; we have a several ex-military (Army and RAF, but no Marines or Navy yet) a jeweller, an estate agent, sales and marketing people, a pharmacist, a union official, a retired GP and a few local councillors amongst our 50+ members. In fact, we are a real mix of personalities.
Farnborough Rotary has two types of members, namely full members (Rotarians) and Associate Members. Rotarians meet every Thursday for lunch at the Holiday Inn; they get involved in the planning of all manner of activities mentioned elsewhere on this site. Associate Members are people who are time-constrained and cannot make the commitment of full members but are ready to help when they can, particularly at some of the events mentioned above.
If you feel you would like to get involved either as a full Rotarian or an Associate Member to give back something to our local community, then please get in touch. We are always looking for people with energy, enthusiasm and a little time on their hands and we would be delighted if you could join us at the Holiday Inn for one of our Thursday lunch meetings to see us in action and meet the members. Even if you could not possibly get away from your commitments to join us for lunch, we would still like to hear from you. This Rotary club needs you!
Please look at our Membership Information Pack, and if you would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact us either by email - email@example.com, or call 0300 772 7011 (local call rates). We hope to hear from you!
