Weekly meeting

This evening Dr Mike gave us a fascinating talk, illustrated with pictures and videos, about the adventures of his nephew Alex Hibberd, a renowned polar explorer.
At tonight's Zoom meeting, we were delighted to welcome Lynn Willard, a Rotarian from New Mexico USA who had been invited as a guest of Ivan. After introductions to our new member Rick Woodroffe and Lynn, the evening began with a short presentation from Martin A about a visit to Fort Stockton Rotary club in Texas, as part of Rotary's friendship exchange programme.
Our main speaker was Dr Mike, who discussed the polar expeditions of his nephew Alex Hibbert, conducted during the sunless days of winter (hence the title of the talk 'Dark Ice'.
We were treated to vast panoramas of icy wilderness, sleds tugged by huskies, and eskimos living in very remote communities. Future plans include further walks to the North Pole in the winter months.
The meeting ended with our US guest leading us in a toast to the queen.
