Weekly meeting

Thu, May 27th 2021 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

We welcome our speaker Kevin Crook from MAF

We were joined at this evening's Zoom meeting by Rotarians Ray and Vicky Burman from Swaffham club, and also a repeat visit from Keith Flitcroft. Our speaker was Kevin Crook from the Charity MAF (Mission Aviation Fellowship).

Kevin gave an overview of MAF, which he described as a Christian Charity which flies small aircraft to remote communities around the world, providing relief and medical support where it is needed. The Charity commenced these mercy missions in 1948 and now has a staggering fleet of over 135 aircraft, operates in 27 countries, to over 3,000 destinations.

They work with other charitable organisations to  bring urgent aid to where it is needed in a fraction of the time it would take overland. Kevin showed us pictures of vertiginous landing strips carved out of hillsides by local people to facilitate aircraft landings. Recently MAF have been working with the WHO assisting with the Covac programme to bring COVID vaccines to remote communities.

It was an excellent talk, which prompted many questions, and our Vice President Paul W  said that support for MAF would be discussed in future meetings.
