ROTARY CLUB OF CHESTFIELD

Club Meeting online 22nd April 2021.

Present:                               Dave C; Pat; Margaret; Godfrey; Andrew & Jean; Reggie; Robert; Lesley; Hilary; Paul (Chair); Pete; Sue; Nick; Andrew B.

Apologies:                           Kathryn.

Paul:                                      Paul said that he has spoken to Gordon.  Gordon s back having blood transfusions, but still feeling well.  Jean said that she has heard that he chats up the nurses.

Paul referred to David M’s proposal (last meeting’s minutes) that when we start back at breakfasts, we should pay in advance online, rather than by cash on the day.  Dave C said he hasn’t had objections to this.  Paul asked about people who don’t do online banking.  Dave C said he doesn’t do online banking; instead he pays a lump sum to David M by money transfer at his branch, and David lets him know if this needs topping up.

Paul welcomed Nick to the meeting.  Nick said he has had enquiries from a number of people who want to take part in the Charity Golf Day in September.  They just need more details.  We think David M has written to them.

Pat:                                        The small social meetings have started up again.  A number of people responded to the minutes of the last meeting by offering to host or attend.  Pat thinks it would be good if hosts can invite Margaret to meetings since it will be an opportunity to meet other members face-to-face.  The meeting discussed the relaxation of restrictions after May 17th; up to 30 people can meet outdoors.

Nick offered to host a large gathering in his garden when this is allowed.  Pat asked that members who are hosting a meeting can let her know so she can keep an overall eye and ensure that individuals are not being missed out.  Later in the meeting, it was suggested that if Nick could host an outdoor meeting in his garden on 10th June at 7.00pm, this could be an early opportunity to meet face-to-face before restrictions finally end.  Bring your own nibbles.

Margaret:                            Regarding the request to support Tankerton Football Club, she has spoken to someone who knows about the club.  She has been told that they already have a lot of support.  On the other hand, the Whitstable equivalent is not so well off, and they do have a section for young players.  Jean said that she remembered that Whitstable were a bit difficult in the past.  Margaret will try to find out a bit more.  The meeting talked about the new football pitch near Swalecliff, and what an awkward position it is in, right on the corner.

Jean:                                     She was with David B yesterday.  He is not well, but he doesn’t like a fuss, so probably a bit premature to ask Jackie to send him a card!  Pete sees David and Anne frequently.

Lesley:                                  On a point of information, can we have a president who has a criminal record?  Lesley ‘fessed up that she has been caught speeding.  She will have to complete a speed awareness course online.  A number of convicted criminals commiserated with her.

Godfrey:                              The next car parking is on 22nd May.  Let’s hope it is busier than last time.  We didn’t take very much money, but at least it got us back on track.

Robert:                                 Pippa & Spyros are away at present.  They have given their apologies for the evening meeting on 24th June.

Andrew B:                           Andrew asked if 29th May is a confirmed date for TWAM?  It all depends on when we can have the use of the van, so no, not yet.  Nick said he will need the van to come to him, as he has a whole garage full of stuff, including some heavy items.  Andre & Jean will let Dave C know when we have a confirmed date for TWAM, so he can circulate it to the membership.

Regarding Walk4Water, Andrew offered a correction to last meeting’s minutes.  The zoom talk to St Peters hasn’t happened yet – it’s next week.  One school has dropped out, so it’s now down to five schools.  Still, that’s quite good in the circumstances.  Robert confirmed that he has the books we award to participants.

AOB:                                      Nick has bumped into John Graham; latter has just moved into a new flat in Hythe.  Nick has also met Trevor.  Trevor is due to retire later this year, so he will be able to attend meetings.  Sue said she is looking forward to her first tea party at Margaret’s.
