CHESTFIELD ROTARY CLUB

NOTES OF MEETING ON

10 JUNE 2021

1.       PRESENT:

Marian, Andrew & Jean, Iain, Lesley, Kathy, Andrew, Jean S, Sue, Nick, Maureen, Elaine, Pat,

Guests: Pat B, Neil, Mary.

Pippa & Spyros had arrived early for the meeting and had to leave due to a prior engagement (so we didn’t see them)

2.       APOLOGIES:

Hilary, Godfrey, Robert, Jackie, David M, David K, Dave C,

Pete, Margaret, Paul.

3.       PE LESLEY:

Welcomed everyone to the first face to face meeting in a very long time and thanked Nick and Mary for hosting in their beautiful garden.

Also thanked Sue for taking notes of the meeting.

4.       HANDOVER/ASSEMBLEY CONTIGENCY PLAN

As the June 21st deadline for removing all Covid restrictions looks somewhat unlikely a discussion was held to look at alternative options if the planned indoor meeting at the Golf Club cannot go ahead.

Suggestions made:

Ask the golf club if they could do an outdoor event with a limited menu – problematic if golfers still around and if weather inclement.

Nick has offered his garden again and is able to put up a marquee – would need help to get everything set up but agreed this is a viable option – all to bring food and drink again.

Final decision to be made following next week’s government announcement.

5.       GOLF DAY – 10th SEPTEMBER 2021

Good raffle prizes needed – everyone asked of they could try and encourage donations.

Sue & Lesley will hit Whitstable town businesses

Pat & Jean will do same in Herne Bay/Tankerton

Hole sponsors – Pat and Andrew both offered. Main sponsor still required (subsequently Nick has this sorted)

Pat hopeful in getting a ladies team application.

Rules regarding handicap have changed. Nick has asked for help with this – Neil requested to provide a guide / help.

6.       BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP SCHEME

Kevin Fielding is setting up a Zoom meeting for Clubs to find out more about linking in with local businesses and encouraging new members.

Lesley is hopeful Membership Chair can attend.

7.       INTERNATIONAL SCHOLAR

Confirmation received today that our scholar, Lauren, has secured funding. Scholars must submit reports about their work to sponsors (? and hosts)

Lesley asked if International Committee could look at planning a programme over the Christmas period for her to visit the Club.

Brenda Parsons to arrange a meeting for all host clubs

8.       VOLUNTEER FOR WEEKLY RAFFLE.

Lesley asked for a volunteer for this role (could be shared by 2).  Please let Lesley know if interested.

9.       EMERGENCY COVID MARSHALLING REQUESTS

Information has been circulated about 2 venues where volunteers needed. Process is now much simpler and everyone encouraged to help if they can – good for Club/community.

10.   ENVIROMENTAL LEAD

District has asked all clubs to have an environmental lead by the beginning of this Rotary year. A name was suggested – Lesley to contact directly. Anyone interested in ‘saving the planet’ please let Lesley know.

11.   DISTRICT CONFERENCE

Discussion regarding Club attendance – a few are hoping to go. Everyone should have received the latest information and application forms.

12.   FUNDRAISING

Sue asked for confirmation that £500 to go to Whitstable school for new equipment – confirmed.

13.   FOUNDATION

Agreed that we do not want crocus corms this year

14.   TWAM

Not the best year – bearing in mind lack of time and advertising. Suggestion made to leave it for 2 years as Chestfield ‘TWAM’d’ out!

15.   SOCIAL

Pat is hoping to arrange 2 nights out (July/August) – one for a Chinese meal the other for an Indian meal – consensus was this would be supported.

16.   MASTER AT ARMS

Nick dusted off his little car and got cracking again. Felt just like old times.

17.   ROTARY TOAST

Jean M gave the toast

18.   DATE AND TIME OF NEXT MEETINGS

BOARD – JUNE 17th @ 6pm at Lesley’s

HANDOVER & CLUB ASSEMBLY – 24th June@ 7pm – DETAILS TO FOLLOW REGARDING VENUE AFTER GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCEMENT NEXT WEEK
