Club weekly Zoom meeting

Wed, Jul 22nd 2020 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

This week we will held our meeting using Zoom. We were honoured to have our District Governor Rory O'Donnell joining us to inform us of District matters and how Rotary is performing in these troubling times.

This week we held our meeting using the Zoom facility.

Ww had a total of 20 members and guests participating.

The District Governor, Rory O'Donnell joined us as did Richard Hudson from the Avon Valley Runners (co-organiser of the Imber Ultra Marathon), Wendy and John Pollard (guests) and John Elkins from Elkins Ford of Westbury - John is a longtime sponsor of the Imber Ultra Marathon and a good friend of the Westbury Rotarians.

Rory O'Donnell, District Governor, spoke on district matters and how CoVid - 19 has affected the district.  He also spoke on membership in general and the scope for for increasing numbers across the age spectrum.  He stated his objectives for the next year, these to include (but not exclusively) supporting Rotary Foundation, ending Polio throughout the world and to grow Rotary membership.

Richard Hudson spoke to all about the Imber Ultra Marathon, AVR in general, how Covid-19 has effected them and the prospects for the 2021 event.

Jim Heath, club treasurer, spoke on how the monies raised on the Imber Ultra event.  We have raised over £25K during the 7 year span running the event.  Monies have supported: WhizKIds, Dorothy House,  Crosspoint, Julia;s House and the RUH cancer ward to name but a few.

We had a brief slideshow that illustrated the nature of the gruelling event.

It was an entertaining and educational evening that was enjoyed by all.

A vote of thanks was extended to speakers and especialy our District Governer.
