Lunch time ZOOM meeting - Kylie Christie from Muirhead Outreach project

On Thursday 21st January 2021 President Geoff Sampson welcomed 19 Club Rotarians and guest speaker Kylie Christie to this lunch time meeting held by ZOOM.

Our speaker this week was Kylie Christie from Muirhead Outreach Project whom we supported by providing 10 Christmas Eve boxes for 10 children through their Christmas appeal. Kylie is the only full-time worker has a degree in Psychology (Stress Management) is supported by 4 part time staff and 4 volunteers, Muirhead Outreach Project which was set up in June 2004 with their aim being to support children and their families, keeping them together in their own communities work with young people and their families in Glenrothes and Levenmouth.  By providing early interventions (through 1-2-1 support and group work) they want to reduce the need for children to have to spend time in residential care. They cover the whole of Fife and have a holistic and welcoming approach. Having supported 10 community groups leading up to Christmas it was always viewed by these groups that support after Christmas would be required. The overall aim of the charity is to prevent children from being taken into care by giving children and families a sense of belonging, a sense of achievement and a realisation that life can be good.   The families are supported through face-to-face work over an 8-week period, youth clubs, parent groups and holiday clubs.

The charity also provides access to a holiday caravan to give families the opportunity to have a much-needed holiday together.   The families can look forward to having outings and new experiences to help build confidence.   The Weir Charitable Trust is delighted to support the work of the project in 2020 by funding essential repairs to their caravan.  

Muirhead Outreach Project’s Charity Development Officer, Janine Norris said “The impact that the recent COVID-19 crisis will have in the future is immeasurable now, but we know that there will be more families who will be affected by unemployment, mental health and the breakdown of relationships.  The Muirhead Outreach Project will be ready and accepting referrals as soon as it is safe to do with the help of the generous donation made”.
