A Message from Club President Stephen.

Rotary Day 23rd February 2021

Every year Rotary celebrates what has been achieved during the year . This includes End Polio and many projects in the developing countries of the world to help the people living there to improve their lives. It is also and opportunity to remember what Rotary has done locally and to plan for the coming year. Here in Bexhill there have been lots of opportunities to help and to reevaluate the ways we do things over the Covid pandemic.
Our Community Service group has assisted the mayor every week since July with collections of food for the Foodbank as well as the local homeless charities (HUG and Warm up the Homeless). Members have also assisted the Bexhill Environmental Group with their tree planting on the Bexhill Down and along Turkey Road as well as with their beach cleaning. Individuals have helped the Caring Community with shopping for vulnerable people and raising money for the homeless and the NHS by making and selling wooden items from waste wood offcuts and by selling home grown plants.

Our Fund Raising has been a bit different this year but we were able to do our usual Christmas street collection by taking the float round after a leaflet drop and, thanks to the generosity of local residents, collected a record amount. In addition money was raised with a Football Competition, and on-line Calendar Game and a club Christmas Card.

Our Interact club, based at St Richard’s College, and our International Group managed to collect 750 shoeboxes packed with toys and useful household gifts for distribution to people in need in Eastern Europe. They also raised money for international projects with a socially distanced Crazy Golf Tournament.

In a normal year our events would also include regular meetings, outings and trips out; hopefully, these will resume before too long.
