Leyland Rotary entered the world of virtual fundraising over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend when we ran an online Duck Race generting £1,200 to be shared between three local charities - St Catherine's Hospice, Derian House Children's Hospice and Cancer Research UK (Leyland branch). The winning duck, 'Tiddles', paddled an amazing 881km and his owner, a former Leyland resident who now lives in Essex, was so surprised by and delighted with his £100 prize, he generously donated it back to the charity fund, as did the second and third place winners.
For many years, Leyland Rotary has staged a duck race on the River Lostock every May, providing a fun-filled day for the local community. This event is one of our major fundraising efforts and, having had to cancel last year's race due to the Covid-19 restrictions, we were keend to find an alternative way to generate much-needed fundsfor the local charities.
We would like to thank everyone who participated in the virtual Duck Race. Hopefully, 2022 will see us back in person on the River Lostock providing a fun day for the local community and putting Leyland Rotary back in the public eye.
