BREAKFAST

Reports from Committee Chairs:

Kathy / Community:  There is a certificate acknowledging our contribution to the Christmas Shoe Box appeal.  Kathy will bring this next week.  Next week she will be bringing Aaron from Inter Act who will speak briefly.

Sue / Fundraising:  The Quiz Night in April is now sold out, all 12 tables.  There was a brief discussion about whether we could squeeze in another table, but it was agreed people would be happier if tables remained spaced out.

Pete / Membership:  There have only been positive responses to Chrisapplication.  His Induction will happen on 10th February, so we ought to try and make it a good turnout.  David B has told Pete that Herne Bay branch is struggling.  We should be aware that some of them might want to join Chestfield if HB folds.

Pat / Social:  The ten pin Bowling & evening meal is all booked for 4th March.  There is a sheet in the folder.  David M has sent a menu to all members.  If you are coming, please let David know your food choices asap.

Margaret / Youth:  Jean Shrubb has emailed her about the final judging of the youth competitions but we dont appear to have known about them.  Herne Bay used to run the Young Photographers competition.  If HB is struggling, then maybe we should offer to run it next year?

Robert / PR & Meals:  Robert said there have been a steady number of hits on the Face Book page.  NFTR.

Andrew B / International:  Joy Lane school were due to have a presentation about Walk4Water, but this was postponed due to the number of teachers off with Covid.  District have mentioned the implications of the volcano eruption in Tonga, but since we have already voted further funds to Shelter Box, we are ahead of the game.  There was a brief discussion about the emerging disaster in Afghanistan; little Rotary can do while the Taliban are not allowing NGOs into the country.

David M / Treasurer:  No issues at present.  Has anyone heard back from Rising Sun or Food Friends how they have spent our donation?  Kathy will email them to ask about progress.  We need to report back to District how the grant money is spent.

Any Other Business:

Lesley said that David M has produced a sample of business cards, flyers etc which we can hand out to interested parties at events where we have a stall, or at the car parking.

We have already paid for a stall for Harbour Day 13th & 14th August.  There will be pressure on us to produce volunteers for this and other events in the Summer.  Car parking at the Herne & Broomfield Fun Day will be on 7th August.  There is also a Come and Meet Usevent for social groups at the Herne community hall on 12th March – ‘though really this should be for Herne Bay.  Chestfield Parish Council have booked the Cricket Club for a celebration of the Queens Platinum Jubilee on 5th June.  They have asked if we have any ideas, and want to be involved.  It will probably involve some sort of street party (sorry, work event).  We could set up a stall for Splat the Rat.  It would be more relevant to us then Harbour Day in Whitstable.  Dave C to put a sheet in the folder asking for volunteers.

Lesley complimented David K for having sorted out speakers for well into Godfreys year.  NB:  to allow speakers more time, all evening social meetings will now be a 6.30pm for 7.00pm start.  All please note.

Dave C spoke about the Whitstable Over-60s Club.  They frequently provide afternoon teas or lunches for members (24 covers on Boxing Day) and would like to save costs by getting back to using crockery rather than paper cups and plates.  In order to be safe they would like to have a dishwasher in their kitchen.  This would be £350 including installation.  Could we apply for a District grant for this?  David M said that we can afford this, but they would have to wait until end of March when the results of grant applications are decided.  Dave C will ask their treasurer to provide supporting details.

Re Charity car parking.  Whitstable have put up all of their tariffs, so should we amend the board where we indicate what punters would have to pay the council?  David M will put a sticker over the current figure.  Margaret was giving the evil eye to a group who departed without paying last time she was on duty.

Greetings from other clubs:  Dave C had a natter with Whitstable members who were staffing the car park at the week end.

Raffle:   Was won by Dave C

Master-at-Arms:  According to Nick, today is Chocolate Cake Day.  Also, on this day in 1880 Edison invented the light bulb.

Next Meeting:  Sue will be giving a life talk.

07.30am Thursday 3rd February 2022 @ the Golf Club.
