BREAKFAST

Presentation:    Lesley invited Aaron to say a few words about activities undertaken by the students.  He said that past activities this year have included a Bake Sale.  For the future they are planning a Variety Show, which will include singing and dancing.  They also plan to hold an International Evening when students from different boarding houses will cook meals from their home countries.

In response to a question, Aaron confirmed that membership is for two years for 6thForm students.  After Interact comes Rotaract for students at university.  Ten new members have been enrolled at Interact this year.  Kathy commented that it is a valuable thing to be able to put on a CV.

Almoner:             Lesley said that Jean has had her operation and is recovering. Pippa reported that Jean has double vision at present but this is expected to clear up.  She will have a CT scan shortly.    Pete reported that David B is in hospital.  The club sent both their best wishes.  Nick reported that he recently had lunch with John and Liz Graham.  John is due for another round of chemotherapy.

Business:             Lesley said that this is Chris’ last time as a guest; next week he will be formally inducted.  Lesley said that the kitchen at the golf club will be closed all day, so next week will be at the Plough.  Everyone please note.  Can we have a good turnout for Chris, please?

Kathy showed members a certificate which has been sent to the club from last Christmas’ Shoe Box Appeal.  David M will scan this onto the web site.

Lesley went to the Canterbury cluster meeting recently. Our own ADG does not organise these and so Kevin Fielding had invited Herne Bay and Chestfield to his group. However, our ADG, Mike Dallen had mentioned us in an email and congratulated us for having an up to date DMS.  Well done to David M for this.

Dave C confirmed that he had sent off to District the club’s two votes in favour of holding the district conference at Eastbourne this year.  There was a discussion about why more people don’t go to the conference.

David M said that 12 people are booked to go bowling on 4th March – which is the right number for two lanes.  If anyone else wants to go, he is happy to book a third lane, but he will need to know as soon as possible.

Greeting from Other Clubs:  Spyros passed on greetings from Saffron Walden.  He went there to deliver walking aids etc the club had amassed.

Raffle:                   Was won by Spyros.

Next Meeting:                   For the Committee: 6.30 pm Tuesday 8th February @ Lesley’s House

                                                07.30am Thursday 10th February @ the Plough
