On Thursday 24th June 2021 for the last time in his Presidential year President Geoff Sampson welcomed 17 members and Guest Amy Thomson to this lunch time meeting held by ZOOM.

Four apologies for absence were received.

The previous week the members were given an insight into the life of incoming President Brian Johnson as he spoke about his childhood and his working life.

This week was the Presidential handover. On Wednesday night incoming President Brian Johnson and SVP Lindsay Roy carried out a handover as they exchanged Rotary Jewels as they were unable to get everybody together physically today. The official handover was carried out on Zoom as outgoing President Geoff Sampson thanked all the members for their support in what had been a difficult but rewarding year for us all. The club and many of the members had supported him well in the many initiatives they have been involved with in particular the Christmas appeal and the online auction but more importantly we have established many good links and raised the awareness of Rotary in the Community.

He thanked incoming President Brian for supporting him and keeping the Diary going where we have had some interesting speakers throughout the year.

He said he had enjoyed a challenging year and was certainly looking forward to Brian Johnson’s year and hopefully with restrictions being lifted we will once again be allowed to get involved in school related projects, continue to support the Community and be more involved with International and Foundation, make inroads into the Environment side and of course SOCIALISING with the possibility of meeting one another face to face and not socially distanced by a computer. We will have a lot to get our teeth into and he said he looked forward to supporting Brian and his team.

President Brian then took over the meeting and asked Chantal Mrimi to speak about the purple crocuses and end Polio now campaign events. Brian mentioned that he had been assisted by his friend Brian Dalgleish and Rotarian Jim Boyd as they cleared out the garages of May Ford and Scott Galloway where the books for going abroad had been stored. The books were taken up to St Andrews for onward transmission North by the committee of the Fife Association of Rotary Clubs.

The pictures which had been taken the previous night were shared with the members showing Geoff Sampson handing over the chain of office to incoming President Brian Johnson, with the now President Brian handing over his SVP Chain to Lindsay Roy. Incoming JVP Iain Oates was on holiday and was unable to be in attendance.

This coming week Thursday 1st July 2021 the club go into a three-week summer break as members head off to backhouse Rossie for a social afternoon. The following week on the 8th of July we will hold our annual bbq. Nothing on the 15th but a group of Rotarians will be going down to the Kinghorn Ecology Centre on Saturday 17th July and will be shown around the men’s shed where the old tools and sewing machines were being restored for onward transmission to Malawi.

If you were interested in supporting the community and international projects get in touch by Private message on The Rotary Club of Glenrothes Facebook page. You will be made most welcome.
