Dunmow B win thrilling Hugh Markham tie

At 6.30pm on Tuesday 18th May the weather looked less than promising for the anticipated clash between the Dunmow B team comprising captain David Beedle, Barry Clark and Stan Keller and Chelmsford Phoenix. However, proving that the sun shines on the righteous, the heavens cleared and from 6.45 to 8.15pm the players and spouses enjoyed a pleasant evening on the grounds outside Hylands House.

The challenge from Phoenix was Kubb, a Swedish game where you have to knock over wooden blocks by throwing wooden batons at them. Dunmow took a little while to get the hang of the rules and found themselves one game down in the best of three. However, after a team-talk they rallied and ran out winners 2-1.

As with all these competitions the fellowship with other clubs makes for an enjoyable time and this was further enhanced with a celebratory drink in a local pub to finish off the day for the Dunmow contingent of David, Patsy, Barry, Sue, Stan and Sheila despite the downpour that greeted them all as they left the pub. Roll on the next round!
