Previously the Rotary Club of Newmarket has been actively involved with the young people of our community. This year we wish to reactivate a programme commencing with our Local Community Awards, where we will recognise the efforts of young people in the Newmarket area and hope to reward an outstanding achievement by putting someone forward for a Rotary District Young Citizen Award.
Through our contacts with local schools we hope to engage in some school enrichement visits. Educational institutions are under incredible pressure from Ofsted visits, and Rotary can assist. Looking for outside curricular activities Ofsted reports have awarded points for Rotary activities where clubs have cooperated with partner schools. We are also putting together plans for a Young Musician event where we want to join together with other local Rotary Clubs.
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive leadership experience organized by Rotary clubs and districts where young people develop skills as a leader while having fun and making connections. Participants build communication and problem-solving skills, discover strategies for becoming a dynamic leader, whilst learning from community leaders, inspirational speakers, and peer mentors. Due to Covid, RYLA in our District was put on hold, but we were able to bring back this fantastic programme again in 2022 with two candidates.
