On Tuesday 7th September the Rotary Club of Hove resumed Lunch meetings at the Hove Club. It was great to be back after 18 months of lockdown. Then Omicrom came along!
As the pandemic situation was changing and more caution was being required by the Government, our last lunch meeting was on the 18th December before resuming zoom only meetings as before. This unfortunately meant that our planned Christmas lunch on 21st December had to be cancelled. One comment from a senior club member summed it up : "Sad but inevitable".
In the previous period where we were unable to meet physically we held weekly meetings on "Zoom" which were very well attended and meant both that our charitable business could continue, and that our members could meet and chat during that strange and otherwise isolating time. We also discovered that we could have a much wider variety of speakers than we have experienced before. We are very grateful to our Club Secretary, Peter Reeve, who set up and operated the Zoom meetings. It really kept the club alive and thriving during this difficult time. We are now back in that situation but will revert to lunch meetings as soon as circumstances permit.
