Thu, Apr 14th 2022 at 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

.

On Thursday the 14th of April 2022 in the absence of President Brian Johnson incoming President Elect Scott Galloway welcomed 10 Club Rotarians and speakers Shannon Wright and Mandy Temple to this lunch time meeting held at the Gilvenbank Hotel.

Nine apologies for nonattendance were received.

Secretary Anne Sampson spoke about the district conference to be held on Saturday 18th June 2022 with a dinner at night with speaker being Incoming 2023-2024 RI President elect Gordon McInally. On the Friday a talk will be given about the Jack Vettriano collection all in the Rothes Halls.

Geoff Sampson gave an update on the Ukrainian collection where he had noticed Maria Orzeg-Wydra who has been organising collections at Oakley and now Dunfermline has said that their next lorry which will leave at the start of next week is likely to be their last lorry, due to donations slowing to a halt.Having spoken with our local contact Paddy Reilly from Denside Removals he mentioned he will be stepping up the cry for help to see if we can get more goods. Kirkcaldy and Edinburgh, Glasgow seem to be donating money now but they still need goods so he can’t understand why things have dried up. If the public still wish to donate goods, please contact us through our Facebook page. Same items required as previously, but no clothing.

Wilna Roger briefly mentioned the Awards evening.

Our speakers this week were full time Manager Shannon Wright who has worked there for 2 and a half years and family support worker Mandy Temple from the Muirhead Outreach Project (Charity No. SC035629) which was set up in June 2004. their aim is to support children and their families, keeping them together in their own communities. they offer services to children, young people and families experiencing difficulties. The packages of support are tailor-made to meet individual circumstances. The primary aim of Muirhead Outreach Project is to support vulnerable children, young people and their families through difficult, chaotic times with an aim of assisting them to remain at home, and to refer on to other professional agencies when necessary. They work in Glenrothes and Levenmouth, where in some areas up to 36.6% of children are living in poverty. Unemployment rates are as high as 11% in some areas and our children often don’t have a working role model in the home. As the area increases in population, the sense of community has decreased. They bring families and children together and help them to build these important social connections. They run a foundation work project, then continue to support the families to reach their goals. They hold family days, parent group and workshops and have a caravan for the use of their families. At present they are working with 29 families, 86 individuals. A fundraiser the Muirhead Mile was organised last Saturday 16th April at the Gilvenbank Park.

The Rotary vote of thanks was given by Wilna Roger.

This coming week Thursday 21st April 2022 is a lunch time Hybrid meeting to be held at the Gilvenbank Hotel commencing at 1.00pm prompt with our speaker Liddy Laird from The uphill Trust.
