The Club recognises our award sponsor and Rotary Community Champion 18 May 2022
The Club was pleasd to nominate Jim Price who became one of seven national winners of the national Rotary Community Champion award. Jim has worked with young people all his adult life and since 2006 has led the Cardiff and Vale Young Carers Interact Club, which is sponsored by Cardiff East Rotary. This club gives young carers the opportunity to have a break while meeting new friends and just having fun.
During the COVID 19 pandemic Jim's work gained additional importance by keeping in regular contact with everyone and encouraging the older members to support the younger members. Jim helped the young carers gain skills such as sowing so they could repair and upcycle clothes.
The Club heard from theyoung carers how Jim had changed their lives, helped with their wellbeing and supported them in gaining their Duke of Edinburgh Award. This had helped many gain jobs and strengthened their CV's for gaining further education opportunities. Many said Jim had helped them become confident which meant they could stand up and tell their stories to a wide range of audiences including our Club.
As well as the national award which is shown on our Facebook page Carwyn Jones the former First Minister of Wales and a Rotarian presented Jim with a commerative award recognising his contribution to supporting young carers over many years.
