Guest:                  Gerri

Zoom:                   Pete.

BREAKFAST

Business:

Membership:  Pat reminded everyone that Gerri will be inducted as a member.  Various members volunteered to bring the bath of jelly and the goat.

Social:  Pat said the same three social events are upcoming as last week.  See the notes from last week’s meeting.  Regarding Adventure Golf at Quex Park, Pat said there isn’t a fixed date yet but members are reminded to put their names in the sheet in the front of the folder, so that we have a measure of how much interest there might be.

Fundraising:  Pat said the Race Night was very successful.  The estimate is that we took £1K on the night, plus a donation of £500 from Gerri’s son.

Car Parking at the week end raised about £510.  Jean M made a number of points.  Firstly, we should have at least 4 volunteers on for the busiest shift of the day ie 1200 to 1400.  Without two people at the top end, we can’t close off the entrance to the road when the parking is full.  Also, it needs two people to deal with enquiries and the card reader both  at the same time.  There was an additional problem when the battery for the card reader ran out of steam.  Finally, we shouldn’t comply with requests to hold back bags of unpaid-for flapjacks and biscuits for people who may or may not want then when they return.  It should be pay as you go (and if you miss out, then that’s unfortunate).  The next car parking will be on Saturday 17th September.  Paul is away, so Godfrey will be in charge.

Extra volunteers are still needed for the Golf Day on 9th September.

Any Other Business:        Dave C said he has been contacted by the organiser of the Royal Air Forces Association (via David B) in connection with their  fund raising collection on Saturday 3rd September.  They are short of two volunteers to shake collection tins for the 1200 to 1400 shift.  Can any of our members help out?  The collection will be outside the Tesco Extra in Millstrood Road, Whitstable.  If anyone can help out, can you please contact the organiser Russell Feast on russellfeast@gmail.com  Dave C has a telephone number for him as well.

Rye & Winchelsea Rotary are organising a fund raising cycle ride round Rye and Romney Marsh on Sunday 2nd October.  There are rides for 25K, 50K, and 100K.  Participants are expected to solicit sponsorship from their parent clubs etc.  Dave (and Diane) are contemplating doing the 25K ride on their Bromptons (folding bikes).  If we do go ahead, it would be nice if the club can sponsor us.  Some scepticism was expressed about whether riding 25K on a small wheeler is feasible.

Sue said she has had an email from Chris Connell, a Whitstable councillor, asking if we could expand the range of our Xmas Run?  We will discuss this at the next Board Meeting.

Lesley said that World Polio Day is approaching.  She offered to contact Rev. Simon at All Saints to ask about illuminating the church.

Andrew B reminded everyone that his International Committee meeting and barbecue will be on next Tuesday 30th August from 18.00.  Everyone welcome (not just the International Brigade) but please let Andrew know in advance.

Greetings from Other Clubs:        Hilary conveyed greetings from a Rotary member she met in Hungary.  Other members have met Rotarians from Whitstable and Chester.

Raffle:                   Won by Andrew B and Paul

Master-at-Arms:              According to Nick, today is World Burger Day.  It is also the anniversary of the day in 1875 when Captain Webb became the first man to swim the channel.

Final Toast:         Given by Sue.

Next Meeting:

07.45 for 08.00am Thursday 1st September 2022 @ the Golf Club

Speaker:  Laura Smith from the Parkinson’s Therapy Unit.
