BREAKFAST

Business:

Social:  Regarding the Safari Supper, Lesley has some instructions for those who wish to attend.  Pat said that today is the last call for attending the Swing Band.  The Quiz Night on 12th November is rapidly approaching.  64 tickets have been sold; ideally, we should sell 80-90ish.  Anyone wanting tickets, please contact David M.  Robert to check the sheet in the events folder; some members mentioned a bit of confusion with the Crossroads quiz night, which is the night before.  Note:  there is also a sheet in the events folder about The Big Quiz by Faversham Rotary on 19th November.

Fund Raising:  Last Sunday was very wet for those doing it in the morning.  Parking raised £218.  Reminder that members need only do an hour's shift if that's all they can manage.

International:  Andrew B not present for an update.  There are a number of shoe boxes which have been donated by members.  Note: the deadline has been extended - if you still have one to bring in, you can do so at next week's breakfast meeting.

Youth Opportunities:  Margaret updated last week's report; everything is going OK.  She does however need to know as soon as possible what ingredients need to be obtained for participants.

District:  Dave C has circulated information about the Rotary Toybox Appeal to raise money for toys for children whose carer(s) live in a refuge.  £25 will fund a box for one child.  The deadline for sending donations is 30th November.  The meeting felt that with everything else we do at this time of year, it should be down to individuals rather than the club to make a donation.

Future Meetings:  The next evening social meeting and dinner will be on 10th November.  The speaker will be a local historian Mark Harrison.  Please see the sheet in the folder; if you cannot attend you must indicate 'No' on the sheet, or Robert will assume you are attending.  There will also be a speaker on 24th November; this will be from the police talking about the latest scams used by villains.

Any Other Business:

Regarding Remembrance Sunday.  Do we know if David B still has a spare wreath from last year?  Pete will enquire.  If not, Nick will order one.

Zoom presentation by speaker from Ismail university in Ukraine.  They will come back to us with a date.

Pippa said thank you for her birthday card.  She has spoken to Hilary who was in hospital in Germany having broken both wrists.  Marian is poorly with an infection.  The meeting wished them both well.

Greetings:           Robert brought greetings from Canterbury Sunrise.  Suneeta gave a talk about his expedition to Corsica.

Reg's Life Story:                Reg said he has traced his family back to the mid 19th Century when the slaves were freed and were resettled to an area set aside in Sierra Leone.  His parents cam to the UK in 1948 so his father could study law.  Reg grew up in Battersea.  He attended teacher training to become a PE teacher.  Reggie married in 1975; he still has the pictures of himself in flared trousers and platform soles.  He has two children; his daughter is a doctor in the states.  Reggie is a Freeman of the City on London.

Raffle:                   Spyros won this but asked to leave the prize for next week.

Master-at-Arms:              Today is International Animation Day.  It's also Simon le Bon's birthday.

Final Toast:         Sue
