BREAKFAST

Business Items:

Social:   Pat said that we now have 30 persons booked to attend the Christmas meal on 8th December at the Crescent Turner hotel.  There is still room for half-a-dozen more.  Let Godfrey know asap.

Fund Raising:   The next car parking will be on 27th November.  Godfrey reported that there are enough volunteers at present.

International:   Andrew B confirmed that members may be aware of the situation in Indonesia and the likely need for international assistance.  We have donated a Shelter Box quite recently, which may be used for Indonesia.  We will donate another Box when funds permit.

Youth Opportunities:    Margaret said that thanks to a late entry there are now six young people who will be at the Young Chef competition this coming week end.  She thanked David M and Robert Mc for their help with the competition.

Any Other Business:   Pat said that we need some more volunteers to be 'collecting elves' for the Christmas Run on Sunday 4th December.  Also for delivering the food parcels.  Ian Small from Red Zebra has asked if we can make up some food boxes for them.  Jean & Andrew M have volunteered space at their home to sort out the collected food.

Speaker:              Emma from the Fraud Squad gave us a talk about the prevalence of fraud in the UK and the ways in which people can become victims of fraudsters.  Emma emphasised that scammers are very clever, and no-one should be embarrassed to report a crime.  As a rule, you should tell two friends, so more people can be on their guard.

If someone is trying to get details from you (even innocuous ones) as part of an unsolicited telephone call - put the phone down, do not engage.  Never click on a link from an unsolicited email, even if it mimics a respectable service provider eg your bank or a family member apparently in need of a small amount of cash.  Think ABC:

·         Never  Assume

·         Never  Believe

·         Always Confirm.  Hang up and use another phone to report.

Visit the Kent Police Fraud Alert website.

Also the government website 'Have I been pwnd?'

Raffle:                   Won by Bob

Master-at-Arms:              According to Nick, today is the anniversary of the publication in 1859 of Charles Darwin's book on the Origin of Species.  Also, and equally momentous, the premiere of Raquel Welch's film  '1,000,000 Years BC.'

Final Toast:         Given by Andrew B.

Next Meeting:

07.45am for 08.00am Thursday 1st December 2023 @ the Golf Club
