BREAKFAST

Business:

Fundraising:       Regarding the Race Night on Saturday 8th July, Godfrey said that only 27 tickets have been sold so far.  Pat asked all members to try and buy or sell at least two tickets.  Last year we made £1600 on this occasion.

Pat went through the Events Folder to see how many names are down for the next Car Parking on Sunday 18th June.  Hilary volunteered to be a fourth person for the 12.00 noon to 14.00 pm slot.  Ian S volunteered to be another person for the 14.00 pm to 16.00 pm slot.  Pat said she can attend from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon.  So, hopefully the busiest times of day will be covered.

Arrangements for the Golf Day in September are in hand.

International:    Pat has circulated a sheet advertising TWAM for next year on Sunday 20th April 2024.  If members can't print this off, ask Pat for a paper copy.

Also, we have received an email about the Shoebox appeal at Christmas.  Kathryn has agreed to be the lead person on our behalf.  Pat said that it is quite emotional watching the images of how please recipients are to get the shoeboxes.

Andrew B reminded members about the students and teachers attending for breakfast next Thursday for Walk4Water.  David M said 11 guests are expected to attend.  Note to members: the following week, Gerry will be doing her Life Talk.

Almoner:             Pippa said that Marian is feeling better but is still in hospital.  Pat gave an update about Jean S; she is still in hospital as there is no change in her condition.

Social:                   Hilary reported progress regarding the 20th Anniversary evening buffet meal at the Crescent Turner.  CT have waived the fee for the tepee, so the cost to members will be in the region of £53.94 (including a tip for the staff).  This may go up by £1.50 if the weather is cold and we need heating in the tepee.  Hilary confirmed the date will be Monday 6th May 2024 for 6.00 pm.  David M said he will open a payment account for members so that we don't have to pay the full cost in one lump sum.

The matter of background music was discussed.  Pat knows a local singer, Roy Brown (note: not Roy 'Chubby' Brown); she will find out how much he would cost.  David M will  make up a poster to be circulated to all nearby clubs.

Hilary and Pat are keen to send invitations to ex-members.  Members please note: anyone with contact details for ex-members, please send them to Hilary.

Any Other Business:        Andrew M remarked that the TWAM van was so full last week that the driver forgot his sack barrow.

Jean M said that there is a very prominent banner in Whitstable High Street advertising the Whitstable Rotary.

Greetings from Other Clubs:        Dover club send greetings.  They have a Fellowship Club for people to want to associate with Rotary without becoming full members immediately.  This was seen as a good way to attract new members.

Raffle:                   Won by Kathryn

Master-at-Arms:              According to Nick, today is World Oceans Day.  On this day in 1949, George Orwell's dystopian masterpiece 1984 was published.  (The title comes from the fact that it was written in 1948;  GO swapped the last two digits).

Final Toast:         Given by Nick
