President Jim’s Farewell Evening
The President’s evening was held at Harewood Downs Golf Course with its spectacular view over the Misbourne Valley. We gathered together to say thank you to President Jim for overcoming the difficulties of the past year and welcoming our new President. Regardless of all the disruption surrounding Covid, President Jim managed to pull out all the stops and made the club and its ethos work. We raised funds and were able to spread a little happiness over several charities. Two of which, in particular, being Riding for the Disabled and Rennie Grove Hospice. Over the past year we have had a number of very enjoyable fellowship evenings and happily helped out wherever we were requested.
The perfect summer’s evening and the good food, together with Rotary friends and guests, made this a most enjoyable evening. Our raffle for the event was held in aid of #Smart Works Reading, which is a UK charity that is focused on helping out-of-work women on low incomes get back into the workforce. The entertainment was harmoniously provided by Rotarian and Blues/Rock ‘n’ Roller by heart, John Dunsterville. His renditions of the hits from pre-Radio Caroline days got us foot tapping, bringing back many memories of our younger years.
The penultimate event of the evening was a well-earned presentation of the Paul Harris Award to Rotarian Donna Foxwell for her outstanding and tireless work for the club.
At the end of the evening the Office of President was handed over to Rotarian Marcus Lee. We wish him success in his new venture and will support him through the coming 12 months.
