On Thursday 22nd September 2022 President Brian Johnson, welcomed 15 club Rotarians to this our lunch time meeting held at the Gilvenbank Hotel.

Scott Galloway advised that he had attended the meeting at the FVA office at the Saltire Centre along with 12 other different charities. This meeting was arranged to pull together community groups in order to discuss Xmas provisions to the needy in the community. The Leslie Pantry (Gayle Wilson) had organised this last year where they prepared food hampers. It was estimated that 400 families needing support by means of a food hamper and about 1500 gift toy hampers. The theme was “No one left behind this Christmas” The club agreed that this was something we should support. Scott also mentioned that his daughter Kimberley had been nominated by Coaltown/Star Primary School as the President of their newly formed Rota Kids.

President Brian said that his wife Rotarian Kay had suggested us joining in a party night at one of the local hotels and 22 Rotarians along with partners confirmed they would like to join in one of the available party nights.

Wilna Roger mentioned that she had attended an Interact meeting at Glenrothes High School. And was delighted that 12 Students were keen to participate this coming school year. A meeting had been held at Auchmuty High school to discuss the arrangements for the peace walk on 9th November 2022. She also mentioned that the cancelled visit to the Big Hoose project at Lochgelly had been rearranged on Wednesday 12th October 2022.

Anne Sampson confirmed that the club’s awareness day would take place at ASDA this Saturday 24th September from 10am – 4pm. Anne also spoke about the proposed Burns night next January and through Linda Ballingall who had suggested contacting John Gilfillan funeral director to participate, he confirmed he would participate. Our recently cancelled Afternoon tea will hopefully be rearranged for next February provided a headline singing group can confirm availability.

Chantal Mrimi our Foundation Chair advised that she had a meeting with Doreen Gray where they had discussed the possibility of supporting a local project. They had a further meeting with Pam Kirkwood of John Fergus school where they have 22 special needs children and suggested the possibility of establishing a sensory garden for the school.

Doreen Gray confirmed that the next Gavel match against Leven Rotary will take place at the Old Manor Hotel on Wednesday 28th September 2022 commencing at 7pm. The following Wednesday 5th October the final match would take place at the Gilvenbank Hotel against Burntisland and Kinghorn Rotary Club.

Geoff Sampson mentioned that he had received feedback from many of the local schools advising that due to the spiralling energy costs and the poverty in the area the schools were going to focus more on supporting the needy in the community which was totally understandable.

The Rotary Presidents golf day took place at Thornton Golf Club on Wednesday. 21st September 2022 with 4 Rotarians and 4 guests participating. Don Anderson guest of Will Wishart came in with the best guest score and Will Wishart won back the Presidents golf Trophy which he won two years ago with the best Rotarian score.

Next week 29th September will be an evening meeting at Gilvenbank Hotel meeting at 6.15pm and commencing at 6.30pm with our guest speaker who had been contacted by Linda Ballingall would be Fife archivist Andrew Dowsey.
