Michael Scouler speaks of his work as a chaplain at Borders General Hospital

Rev. Michael Scouler of Borders General Hospital's Chaplaincy team was the Rotarians' guest speaker on 24thNovember. Introduced by Ron Sutherland, Michael began by recounting his path through ministry rรดles, commenting that he began as a chaplain in the Army and hoped to complete his career as a chaplain in the Health Service. His talk was serious, and thought-provoking, as he spoke of the circumstances he could find himself in within the hospital. He mentioned the changes in protocol he had seen, from times as a parish minister when he and his colleagues could, within the hospital, consult a record showing which of their church members had been admitted, up to current times when data protection restrictions forbade this.
