Lunch time meeting - 12.55pm- our speaker will be Chris Meizitis, Community Development Team Manager

Thu, Jun 1st 2023 at 12:55 pm - 1:55 pm

On Thursday 1st June 2023 President Brian Johnson, took the meeting as he welcomed 20 Rotarians and guest Rotarian David Wright from a Rotary club in London and 2 soon to be inducted new members Cameron Maguire and Conner Pratt and guest speaker, Chris Meizitis to this our lunch time meeting held at the Gilvenbank Hotel, Glenrothes.

Just prior to the meal President Brian Johnson had the pleasure of presenting a cheque for £800 to Linsay Proctor and Gingy (Mascot) from Fife Gingerbread. Linsay advised that the money raised from our recent Race Night will go towards Day2play with every penny raised being used to support families in need during School holidays. Day2Play is a chance for children and parents to make special holiday memories right here in Fife. For many families the current cost of living crisis means they are choosing between heating and eating, making day trips and family adventures out of reach. Previously they went to the beach, had a picnic - just fun for all, just something for the kids to tell their friends about their summer." Fife Gingerbread hope to raise £10,000 this summer to help as many families as possible. £100 is enough for a day trip including activities, travel and lunch for a family of 4. £500 is enough for them to organise a trip for one of our projects - a bus trip for families to attend activities in Fife with lots of food, fun and happy times.

President Brian had the pleasure of inducting Conner Pratt and Cameron Maguire as two new members into Rotary he also advised that he and his wife Rotarian Kay were attending the District Conference in Perth the weekend of 9th and 10th June.

Anne Sampson mentioned about the Kids Out day on Wednesday 14th June 2023 at the Deer Park outside Cupar with three buses going from the local schools.

Wilna Roger advised that the awards evening last Thursday 25th May 2023 was a great success again with local MSP Jenny Gilruth presenting the awards. Wilna also mentioned the forthcoming Markinch Highland games where we had arranged to attend to promote Rotary in the community.

Geoff Sampson updated the members about one of our recently inducted members Rose Duncan who had had a stroke the other week.  At the time of writing this report sadly we received news from the family that Rose had passed away peacefully on the Monday morning. She was a source of inspiration and support to so many in the community and she will be missed by so many in our community whom she had supported. She will indeed be a great loss to us in Rotary, her family and also to the greater community.

Our speaker this week was Chris Meizitis Community Development Team Manager with Fife Council who had taken over from JP Easton last year on his retiral. Chris spoke about his role and Community Learning and development. He spoke about the importance of the workings of strong partnerships, being a development for positive change under the District educational practices and professional framework. The outcome to improve Life Chance for people of all ages through learning and personal development and active citizenship.

The Rotary vote of thanks was given by David Cooper.

This week Thursday 8th June 2023 is a lunch time meeting arrival by 12.40pm commencing at 12.45pm This week is our club Assembly where incoming President Scott Galloway will roll out his ideas and plans for the forthcoming year commencing 1st July 2023.
