Rotary Cardiff Breakfast was successful in obtaining a District Grant for an International/ Educational project between Bumatofu Primary School in Uganda and Whitchurch Primary School. The project includes, the purchase of a solar panel which will provide additional hours of lighting to enable 532 pupils attending the Bumatofu school to study for longer periods and a lap top which will be used by the school to establish an Internet Link with the 700 pupils at Whitchurch Primary School. This will enable the two schools to share their educational and social experiences.

The Rotakids decided this year to raise money at the PTA’s Christmas Fair for the pupils at Bumatofu school. The Rotakids had 6 different stalls at the PTA’s Christmas Fair held on Friday 25th November. They sold books, toys and games, cups filled with sweets. Three activity stalls ‘Guess the weight of the Christmas cake; and two fun activity games which attracted a great deal of laughter and sweets for the winners.

At the end of the event items remaining were gathered together and donated to Cancer Research Wales Charity shop in Whitchurch village. The children’s books were given to the BREKFLEX club to distribute to children who are not fortunate enough to have their own books.

In just two hours they managed to raise £414.95 and a cheque was presented to representatives from PONT (Partnerships Overseas Networking Trust) a UK registered charity) on the 5th December 2023. PONT has worked in Uganda for many years. providing help and support in creating long term links between schools in Uganda and South Wales.

A huge thankyou to the Rotakids for organising the event, the pupils, staff, parents and Rotarians for giving so generously to support this worthwhile project.
