Cairncross Award for Outstanding Work in the Community
This year’s Cairncross Award for Outstanding Work in the Community will be awarded to Suzie Burt from Lethan4All on 8th June, 2023 at McDiarmid Park. Suzie of Letham4All hugely impressed the Rotary Club of Perth members.
Suzie has been involved with Letham4All SCIO since its conception in 2017, joining as volunteer and then becoming a Trustee in 2019 after the first AGM. She worked with the other founding members to develop the charity, working through the creation of the constitution and then the registration with OSCR.
Based around the concept of volunteering, the aim is to enable and empower people to participate by not only using the facilities but also by encouraging them to volunteer. This improves mental wellbeing and also means the community is central to all decision making.
Thus, Suzie works with the other Board members and Volunteers listening and talking to local people to hear what would make a difference to them and the community. Their services are wide ranging and constant supporting financial wellbeing, “oot the hoose” social interaction, food distribution and minibus services. One example, the recent Festive Initiative, was supported by some Rotarian volunteers, distributing 500 goody bags to those in need in the community.
Apart from the development, co-ordination and volunteering work she does for the charity, Suzie also leads the local Cost of Living Crisis Working Group with local partners to develop approaches to support those in need. She is also the lead director in the development and writing of fund raising applications to support capital and revenue projects, all based on the ideas and aspirations of the local people. More than £2 million has been raised including securing already £626k for the next 3 years to support the Letham4All Strategic Plan to 2026.
Suzie has boundless enthusiasm and a passion for creating a better community in Letham and beyond. The Rotary Club of Perth is delighted to recognise her outstanding work with this award.
