President Sophie and Past President Diana attended the Leavers Assembly at Scotholme Primary and Nursery School in Hyson Green. They presented each year 6 pupil with their very own Dictionary 4 Life, donated by the Rotary Club of Nottingham.
By using dictionaries efficiently children explore spellings, meanings and derivations for example by using alphabetical order, abbreviations and definitions with understanding. One of the most positive aspects of being able to use a dictionary is that it helps to develop autonomy and confidence in the learner — one of the core goals of education. It promotes books and the printed word.
The dictionaries will enable both first and second language users to extend and improve the accuracy of their vocabulary. It should help children with their homework in secondary education.
We have donated the dictionaries as part of Rotary’s Dictionaries 4 Life project. The project supplies illustrated dictionaries to Rotary Clubs to donate to local primary school children. Well over a million books have been donated to date.

We shared the £1200 we raised at our annual brass band concert last year between three local charities and last month we visited Emmanuel House to hand over their cheque.
