Students Unleash a Hot Topic for ‘Youth Speaks’ Debate
An entertaining, lively and informative evening with students from the Hereford Sixth Form Debating Society
Rivalry, critical thinking and fervour were the order of the
day when students from Hereford Sixth Form College Debate Society recently took
part in Hereford City Rotary Club’s first ‘Youth Speaks’ debating competition. 
Not ones to shy away from public affairs and hot topics, it was an excellent opportunity for the students to showcase their public speaking skills as they debated whether the UK should withdraw from the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).
The evening was entertaining, lively and informative as the students conveyed their respective positions with confidence while impressing the audience with their art of reasoning and knowledge of the topic.
Ron Pearce, Hereford City Rotary Youth Service lead said, ““Debating is a wonderful and very useful
skill for young people to equip themselves with. It teaches them how to put
their points across in a respectful, dignified and convincing way. The students
were exceptional and it was very difficult to choose the winning team. We were
delighted to recognise their outstanding efforts by presenting all of the students
with Rotary Certificates of Achievement.” 
He continued, “Education is a key area of focus for Rotary International and at Hereford City Rotary Club we are committed to helping young people in Herefordshire achieve their full potential in their learning and development pathways. A wonderful night was had by all, the audience left with plenty to think about.”
