Dancing the Night Away!

Where all young people and children have the chance to dance!

Hereford City Rotary Club recently awarded a grant of £500.00 to Melody Dance Company CIC so that they could continue to provide dance classes for free for children living in Herefordshire who would not normally attend due to lack of funds. During the cost of living crisis parents are unable to afford those little extra activities that enhance children's lives and this grant was awarded to allow more young people to access these wonderful dance classes.

We were thrilled then to be asked to a session at Melody Dance Company CIC at The Kindle Centre to see one of their amazing classes in action. Here we met with Founder and Director Laura Honeybourne and Meryem Mollachat one of her very talented teacher trainees.

Laura setup her dance school in 2011 firstly as a normal business working within local schools and groups. However after wanting to focus more on the community and having a passion for ensuring that dance was available for all young people no matter what their background, Laura and her team launched their Community Interest Company.

She has two trainee teachers who have come up through the ranks and it was wonderful to see how passionate and caring they were with the group during the session. One of the teacher trainees Meryem, was keen to share her journey and told us of her goal to teach others and bring a love of dance into their lives. She is looking forward to running her own classes and host future events at Melody Dance Company.

It is clear from speaking to everyone that the benefits of dance for young people is immense, particularly for improving self-esteem and mental health. Meeting regularly and being involved in something so creative is not only great from a social point of view but also improves confidence.

Melody Dance Company CIC provides classes during term time in Leominster and Hereford. Classes are open to all children from beginners to more advanced and they are happy for children to book a FREE taster session to see if it is for them. The classes cover age ranges 5 - 7yrs, 8 - 10 yrs and 10 - 16 yrs.

If you would like to see Melody Dance Company in action they will be performing at The Courtyard on Thursday 18th July 2024.
